Ballast Clinic
The club will start a clinic on ballasting on Friday night April 4 from 7 to 9 pm. We will be demonstrating how to put down the ballast, smooth it, wet it, and glue it. At this is a slow process the ballasting clinic should last for a week or more. The three main line tracks have already been painted and cleaned so we are ready to ballast. As this will be a hands on clinic the items you should bring are a one inch wide paint brush or smaller, 50/50 mixture of white glue and water, and a wetting agent of either rubbing alcohol or water with a few drops of dish detergent in it. If you are not sure how to mix these we’ll help. You will need containers the allow you to drop one drop at a time such as contact lens cleaner bottles or eye drop bottles or something similar. See you there.
Club Train Trip
At the March Business Meeting the membership present voted on the several train trips presented. There was a tie for the Leadville, Colorado & Southern and the Cumbre & Toltec. It was decided to ride the LC&S on May 31st and plan the Cumbre & Toltec for September. As with all trips we can get a group rate with 20 or more people so the invitation is open to other clubs and friends & family. The sooner we hear from you the better so we can plan the trips. As May is not very far away it is important that we work on this trip in a hurry. This will be a one-day trip and the train leaves the depot at 1 pm so we can carpool up in a leisurely fashion and check out historic railroad stuff along the way.
Anderson Power-Pole Connectors
The club has ordered 100 sets (a set being 1 red, 1 black plastic sheath, two pins, and two roll pins) of the Anderson Power-Pole Connectors. For those building modules you will need 8 to 10 sets. The extra 2 sets being for the AC power cord. The order will allow us to complete the wiring of the club layout. And the extras will be for sale to club members for a dollar a set. Lester did find a source of the Jones Plugs if anyone is interested. A set of one female and one male is around $7 plus shipping and handling.
Model Train Show & Swap Meet
The club voted to attend the train show at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds on April 26 & 27. We are checking to see if we can setup on Friday night. This will be a new show for the club.
3rd Annual Historic Georgetown Railroad & Mining Days
We were invited last year to attend this show but do to other commitments we could not attend. The club voted to attend this year. The show is Memorial Day weekend with the show being on Saturday & Sunday May 24 & 25. The club is in the process of finding out if we can setup Friday night. The organizers are working on getting us discounts for lodging and possibly free tickets to ride the Georgetown Loop. There will be more on this as I receive the information.
Field Trips
The club came up with several one-day trips to go on. Ideas that were tossed around were Tiny Town, Alpine Tunnel, this should be a two day trip, UP Steam, Pueblo Train Museum, Phantom Canyon / Gold Camp Road, Como / Deckers, and Camp Hale. If you are interested in going on any of these please contact Mike Peck at 719-550-1780 so we can get the trip scheduled.
New Members
The voting membership voted in John Grier into the club. John is a returning member and we are glad to have him back. Congratulations John.
ClubRoom & Storage
For those of you who do not know it we have moved out of the storage unit we had on Academy Place. We moved into a garage unit shared with Ron & Rick. The unit is across the street from the clubroom for easy access and the cost is greatly reduced. So if you are going to help load or unload for a show you need to go to the clubroom.
