Here are the wind turbines. This type is called the Darrieus wind turbine. It rotates on a vertical axis rather than a horizontal axis like the more familiar propeller-style wind turbine. One advantage to this design is that it is not dependent on the direction of the wind. However, the efficiency is not as great as the propeller-style. Nearby are the transformers and substations that gather the electricity generated by the turbines and send it on it's way. The trestle is scratch-built by one of our members, Mike Peck. He's our club's expert on bridges and trestles. Note that this trestle has an opening under it for the road access to the wind turbines for maintenance.
